Library

“Four Waters”  Library, centrally located, in the shade of a big, old and sweet apple tree, is an old stone house where our family lived for several generations, and was our playground during our childhood. We would use this space filled with father’s and aunt’s high school books, smell of wheat and homemade brandy, to time-travel through play and re-imagine the world by writing our story.

Its transformation and healing potential continues. From being uninhabited and a storage for years, it revives again. We are currently restoring it and transforming it into a library where we can share with the village and our communities the works of friends, family, and collaborators  from all over the world who are ready to bravely experiment, come together, re-imagine and act.

Peaceful and quiet room, with walls made of natural materials, fired brick, and an old oak floor that bends under one’s footsteps, sounds like a whisper of the ones who once lived there, and has the smell of forest, water and wind. The house with the roof which center simultaneously spreads and assembles its rays, is a library where its visitors are given space to spend some serene hours in research and writing the new worlds.

The apple tree is our Watchtower. It warns us of our enemies, like the annoying neighbors especially the Babas who always need something. When they are particulary annoying with their black scarfs and gloomy voices we make strange sounds from the top of the Watchtower and then they are afraid of death.

A new contemporary voice, some crackling and squeaking of treetops that embrace the house on four waters are being shared with others – the ones that are out-there in the world or here, in the neighborhood – via radio shows, interviews or radio dramas that are happening in the space as independent activities or as an addition to prearranged programs.

The Library is equipped with publications of diverse genres, sorts and uses. Significant part of our collection are HEKLER collective publications and gifts made and shared among the collective and HEKLER collaborators.

In addition to the books, collected or gifted during different occasions, the Four Waters Library includes making of unique, small editions of new publications, zines and art books. These activities are done during the workshops organized by the Library or during specific Residency programs.

Each book is being stamped and registered with the inventory number where every title has its signature that allows an easy find on the shelf. Our title list for searching is always updated and available on THIS LINK. The books can be loaned by the locals and Four Waters residents. The use of the library and of its inventory is free of charge.
