Ljubanje is a village in western Serbia, located on the slopes of the Zlatibor and Tara mountains, 9 km south from the city of Užice.

The name of the place first appears in Turkish “tefteri” writings from the late 15th century. The root of the word „Ljubanje” is the Indo-European, Proto-Slavic primary adjective “ljub” which carries the meaning of the following soft adjectives: dear, gentle, tender. This adjective is at the base of other numerous nouns, as parts of anthroponymy and toponymy: Ljubica, Ljubomir, Ljubodrag, Ljubiš (first names) … According to legends, Ljubanje got this name because of the fairs that were organized in the area where, often pre-arranged, great loves and marriages were born. This was how members of various tribes got intertwined, creating a rich environment that during the period before World War II, according to stories, had a greater population than the city of Užice.

The average altitude is approximately 720msl. During the year, the lovers, and admirers of “promaja” here can experience winds in folk know as “big winds” – the winds blow from the south, carry rain and uproot trees; košava or “kremanac” or “drinjak” – blow from the west, carry rain and snow, and extremely cold winds “severac” and east wind or “ustoka”.

Ljubanje has diverse flora. Especially beautiful are meadows, pastures, orchards, and forests in which oak and beech are most often plants. There is an abundance of medicinal herbs among which are basil, white radish, sage, St. John’s wort, nettle, yarrow, comfrey, chamomile, dandelion, lemon balm, rosemary, mint, marigold, just to name a few. The plethora of plant species benefits our animal friends that you can encounter during the walks, such as rabbits, foxes, squirrels, weasels, hedgehogs, polecats, badgers, and sometimes even roe deer and wild boar. The chirping of various species of birds fills our spacious meadows. The most famous are sparrow, titmouse, swallow, nightingale, woodpecker, bunting, pigeon, hoopoe. There are predators, as well: magpies, hawks, falcons, ravens, owls, and cuckoos.

Considering that “Four Waters” is located on the peak of the hill, at the point from which roof slants unfold descending towards the well-known foggy basins of Užice and Požega, there is a great chance that your entire stay, regardless of the time of year, will be accompanied by sunny days from the early morning till late afternoon.
